LVStudio and Indoor Camera Use

This guide was written with a focus on the new LVStudio App.  Going forward our main app will be LVStudio.  The original Live View Golf app will be maintained only for users of the Live View Classic cameras and also for older incompatible hardware devices.  LVStudio will require iOS 12.0 or higher on iPad Air2 or iPhone 6S or better.  The Android version will be released to beta starting in May 2020 with a target release of mid to late June.

Indoor Tips:

With our ongoing shelter-in-place advisories caused by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, we have found ourselves spending more time trying to figure out ways to practice our golf swing at home.  The good news is that LiveView is perfect for this because fixing your swing with LiveView does not require you to actually hit real golf balls.  Below are some tips on how you can use your LiveView PRO or LiveView PLUS to continue to improve even at home and indoors.

1. Use "Portrait Mode" to Minimize Space.

LiveView PRO in Portrait Mode

The LV PRO and +Plus image sensors are rectangular. This means that turning the camera sideways actually gets you additional sensor height which translates directly into closer camera placement. Using LV PRO in “Portrait” mode allows you to place the camera inside 4′ without sacrificing swing height.

We recommend the LivePod2 as an ideal indoor stand because it is compact, stable and easy to move.  The ball socket was specifically designed to accomodate a 90° flip into portrait mode. or for putting. Because the LivePod2 base is extremely narrow it can be placed inches from a wall to maximize any available space.

To set LVStudio to match the camera Portrait Mode, use the “Rotate” button in the top right corner of the “Home” screen to rotate your image

2. Use a "Quiet" Sound Trigger.

For at home practice we recommend using some kind of mat or carpet remnant to cushion the club at impact to protect your flooring and club.  **BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS** before starting to practice to avoid injuring others or damaging your property.

The LiveView sound trigger can be adjusted to respond to softer sounds like a club brushing on the carpet or even a putter stroking the ball.  In order to use a softer sensitivity, your environment must be very quiet to avoid false positive triggers from background noise.

3. Guided Mirroring With Martin Hall

One of the key new features of  LV Studio is the introduction of Guided Mirroring.  Guided Mirroring is a breakthrough in motor learning because it allows us to learn intuitively the same way we do as children, by simply copying what we see.  Guided mirroring shows us both the model and our movement at the same time. By looping the model concurrently with our own movements we can continue to observe the differences and constantly make corrections and distinctions that enable us to learn new skills much more quickly than normally.

Guided mirroring can be done with any lesson loop or swing loop in your video library.  We recommend to keep the movements simple and to avoid full swing videos because a full swing presents too much information to process in a single practice session.  An example is a great video Martin Hall did for us on how to build power using a simple “Shift and Rotate” movement in the down swing through impact.  The lesson video is available on our YouTube Channel and the lesson loops are available on our Forum.  To import the Martin Hall lesson loops or your own videos see the next section:

4. Importing Pro Swings

Using Guided Mirroring, it is possible to emulate your favorite Pro swing.  We will release downloadable lesson and Pro swing content to the LVStudio App with the coming version of LVStudio.  If you have swing content that you want to emulate  the following video will guide you through how to import your own content into LVStudio using iCloud.

As always we hope you enjoy these new features as much as we did making them.  Please direct any questions through our contact page.

Announcing LV Studio Learn Even Faster!

We are proud to announce the next evolution of our ground breaking DSM™ technology to help you see what is real and learn faster than ever.  Our upcoming iOS LV Studio App adds key new features to make swing changes faster and track your progress along the way.

In the coming weeks we will begin beta testing and releasing new features including:

  • Split Screen Video (beta available)
  • Video Templates (beta available)
  • Cloud Video Storage *(March)
  • Coaching interface * (March)
  • Dual Camera Mode* (April)
  • Android Version (May)

*Premium Service requires subscription. The Dual Camera Mode will require a premium subscription because the second camera will be delivered as an app using your iPhone or iPad as a second camera. We will announce premium service pricing when features are released.

Rollout

LV Studio replaces the original Live View Golf App for all LiveView +PLUS and LiveView PRO users.  The original app will be available for Live View Classic users and older hardware devices.

If you are interested in testing all of the new features as soon as they become available, we have a limited number of slots available for beta testers. V5.5 Beta Testers will need to re-register since the code has been branched into a new app.  We recommend using an iPad Pro in early feature testing because code optimization for older devices is not scheduled until initial feature delivery is completed.

For additional information on the Beta test, please see our Forum for more detailed information:

V5.5 App Updates

We’ve been busy working on some major updates to the Live View Golf app.  It took a little longer than we anticipated because we ended up having to re-write large parts of our code base from scratch in order to fit in our next generation features.  We are finally ready to start sharing some of the changes that we’ve been working on and need beta testers to help us tune and debug the new version.  If you are tech savvy and willing to help us debug the new app, we invite you to participate in our public beta in the coming weeks. Simply log on to our forum and subscribe to the following thread:  v5-5-beta-testers-notification-ios-only/.

Whole Screen UI

Our biggest goal in V5.5 was to take better advantage of the screen size to maximize the information we can display. V5.5  Maximizes screen use by scaling the video over the entire screen and removing menu bars.

V5.5 Home Screen

Rotate Video and PIP

V5.5 also gives the ability to rotate your video to take advantage of the rectangular sensor shape and increase vertical imaging height in situations where space is tight.  We are also introducing a picture in picture engine (PIP) that will allow you to load reference videos for view during practice.

New Drawing Tools

Finally we are reworking the entire drawing tools engine to make it more simple to draw including

  • Easier line selection for moving objects
  • Free drawing of lines
  • Relative Angles to other lines.

Our First #myPocketStudio Contest

We are excited to announce our first #myPocketStudio Contest!  Live View is an amazing learning tool that helps you see what you are doing during practice and connect the correct movement with a physical feeling.  Learning this feeling correctly and consistently allows golfers to build a strong muscle memory that is accessible reliably during play and leads to lower scores. Connecting your feel to what’s real is the essence of efficient practice.

We at Live View love our cameras as much as anyone and are always tinkering with new uses for them.  We recently published a great use of the Live View for putting with our LivePod2.

We’ve now created a way to monitor our swing from overhead using a small piece of 2×4, two 1′ pipe brackets and an alignment rod. The overhead view yielded some surprising insights into improving club path,  lag and shoulder rotation.

Now It's Your Turn

Now it’s your turn. We want to hear how you are using your Live View and hope you will share tips or unique uses you have developed.  To reward you we will award a $100 Amazon Gift certificate per week starting on Monday, October 14th through Monday, November 4th for the most creative or innovative use of Live View.  After November 4th, we will repost the four winning entries and let you vote on which one was your favorite.  The winner will receive a free Live View AR headset to take their practice to another level. To enter simply post your video on how you are using Live View and any explanation on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or YouTube using the “@liveviewgolf” and #myPocketStudio hashtag.  Our final winner will be announced on November 15th, 2019.

For the third year in a row, Golf Digest has named the LiveView camera the Best Video Camera for Golfers.

The device—commonly recognized as the golf studio that fits in your pocket—was recognized by Golf Digest in 2017 and 2018 as well. LiveView Sports has diligently maintained their position at the front of the pack with continuous updates and constant innovation.

In fact, even as Golf Digest presents this award to LiveView’s second generation camera—the LiveView+Plus—the sports technology company is unveiling a brand new generation: LiveView Pro.

The LiveView camera stands out among rapidly advancing golf technology with its real-time visual feedback and astounding versatility. The wireless, lightweight device attaches to a tripod or alignment rod, allowing the user to position it literally anywhere to capture any angle of their golf swing.

The camera then transmits live, mirror-image video to the LiveView app on the user’s smartphone or tablet, enabling them to observe and correct their technique in real time. Both instructors and golfers of all levels have discovered the practice-enhancing power of this immediate visual feedback. Players are able to make a clearer connection between the look and feel of a skillful golf swing. The result is accelerated improvement and heightened self-awareness, translating to lower scores and more fun on the golf course.

The LiveView app further enhances the strengths of the LiveView camera with additional tools such as slow motion instant replay and the option to draw coaching guides directly onto the video screen. Soon, LiveView will even be introducing all-new Swing MAPs, a feature that allows users to overlay their live video with a swing motion diagram demonstrating the motion and anchor points of some of golf’s strongest players.

The technology of the camera itself is charging ahead, as well. This year’s Editor’s Choice winner, LiveView+Plus, made mirror image video a more effective training tool than ever with a video delay of less than half a second and video speed of 60 frames per second for the most detailed slow motion playback possible.

Now, the all-new LiveView Pro camera includes a larger-than-ever lens and sensor to maximize light input in indoor settings. The device also features a built-in wide angle lens so golfers have a full view of their swing even in more confined spaces.

With this advanced generation, LiveView Sports offers even more practice options for golfers. No matter their location, climate, or ability to get to a golf course, every player can practice golf at the highest level and discover real improvement in their game.

That’s what makes a winner.

See Every Second Of Your Swing In Real Time!

In the game of golf, knowledge is everything. Even the most invested golfers cannot fix the errors they don’t realize they’re making. In fact, Dave Phillips, founder of the Titleist Performance Institute, has said:

The biggest issue for most golfers’ lack of improvement is insufficient feedback during practice.”

LiveView Golf has made great strides to provide golfers of all levels with game-changing insight through the LiveView+Plus camera and Digital Swing Mirror app.

Now these innovators are taking the technology of self-observation one step further.

Introducing the LiveView AR headset.

Anyone who has experienced LiveView Golf knows how informative the technology is. The wireless LiveView+Plus camera easily snaps onto an alignment rod, so the device can be placed anywhere to capture any angle of your swing. The camera then connects wirelessly to the Digital Swing Mirror app on your smartphone or tablet. The app displays live, mirror image video of your swing, enabling you to recognize mistakes as you make them and ensure proper correction.

Now, with the new AR headset, LiveView offers a truly seamless practice experience. The headset displays video image right before the user’s eyes, so golfers can see every move without compromising their posture to look at a screen.

The LiveView AR headset takes the form of an athletic-style sunglass frame with an attached micro-display.

Here’s how it works:

  • The LiveView AR headset connects to your HDMI-compatible smartphone. This includes all iPhones and Samsung S7-S9 smartphones.
  • The Digital Swing Mirror app on your smartphone conveys video image to the LiveView AR headset.
  • The headset then displays live video of your swing on a simulated, 4” screen 12 inches from your eye.

You won’t miss a second of your swing. No matter how you turn your head, you’ll always have live video right before your eyes . . . which means you can correct errors in an instant.

LiveView’s state-of-the-art AR headset is lightweight and specially designed to stay in place through rigorous activity, ensuring that this technology integrates smoothly into any golfer’s practice. There is no interruption and no distraction. Only the remarkable opportunity to observe oneself with the eyes of a golf coach.

To learn more about LiveView Golf and the new LiveView AR headset, be sure to visit the LiveView booth (#1174) at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show. LiveView is back this year with a bigger booth, some the most revered coaches in golf, and groundbreaking new innovations, including the LiveView AR headset.

Attendees of the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show will want to stop by the LiveView booth to find out how one portable, affordable device is changing the way golfers perfect their game.

Players of all levels know there can be a disconnect between what they think their body is doing and what they actually are doing. LiveView seeks to repair that disconnect with live, mirror image video.

LiveView has two main components: a lightweight, portable camera and the LiveView app. The camera connects to a smart phone or tablet through the LiveView app, displaying live video directly on the screen. The system is completely wireless, and the LiveView camera fastens easily to an alignment rod. As a result, users can position the camera literally anywhere to capture the perfect visual angle of their swing.

When golfers practice with LiveView, they have access to immediate kinesthetic feedback on their swing. They are able to watch themselves the way a coach would. And with the LiveView app’s options for automatic recording and instant slow motion replay, users can evaluate every swing on the molecular level. In fact, LiveView’s latest model, LiveView+Plus, boasts an impressive 60 frames-per-second video speed. This ensures no detail is lost in slow motion playback.

It’s not difficult to imagine the benefits of accessing this kind of information during or immediately after a swing. Golfers can correct errors in the moment. They can finally see the bad habits their coach has been talking about. And perhaps most essential to motor learning: they can make a connection between how their swing feels and the actual motion they create.

The LiveView app even features Swing Tools, enabling golfers and their coaches to draw coaching objects onto the screen. Users can check head position with circles and draw lines to help find the correct swingplane. These coaching objects can even be saved as templates, so players can continue to practice and self-evaluate even when their coach isn’t there.

While nothing can ever replace the eye and insight of a golf coach, LiveView offers players a level of autonomy they’ve never had before. Finally, they can watch themselves in real time, correct errors before they turn into habits, and learn to execute proper technique with total accuracy.

With LiveView, players of all levels can finally see fast, lasting improvement in their game.

Every golfer knows there are countless ways to screw up a golf swing. With so many muscles at work, it’s nearly impossible to keep tabs on every element of the swing motion as it happens.

The LiveView Golf camera and app made it possible for golfers to observe themselves and catch their own errors through Digital Swing Mirror technology and video replay. Now, with LiveView+Plus, golfers can rely on even higher quality video replay to ensure they don’t miss a thing.

This new generation of LiveView features a video speed of 60 frames-per-second. That’s three times more frames than LiveView’s classic model.

This incredible increase in frame rate promises enhanced slow motion video performance. With 60 frames per second, golfers are guaranteed to witness even the smallest details of their swing. The cupped wrists, the unwanted head motion, the lag released just a little too late . . . no matter how small the error, the LiveView+Plus camera is bound to catch it, and the slow motion replay will clearly display it.

What’s more, LiveView+Plus features Swing Tools, a function allowing users to draw coaching objects on the swing mirror display. A golfer can draw a line for a visual of the correct swing plane, for example, then use LiveView’s high-quality slow motion replay to see how well they executed the swing and note exactly where their swing shape may have faltered.

Just like LVG Classic, LiveView+Plus is compact, lightweight, and completely wireless. This device holds a battery charge for two hours and can be used anywhere. For further versatility, the camera is designed to clip securely onto an alignment rod, making it possible to place the camera at any height and angle without disrupting the swing.

And because this training tool is geared toward improving the golf swing itself, there’s no need for a ball. With LiveView+Plus, golfers can practice in any space large enough to swing a club.

The LiveView+Plus camera syncs wirelessly with a tablet or smart phone, where everything the camera captures can be viewed in real time through the LiveView app. The app allows users to select automatic swing detect, which automatically records each swing from two seconds before impact to two seconds after. There is also an option for automatic replay, either once or on a continuous loop, with an adjustable playback speed. These features make it possible for golfers to review every swing without ever interrupting their flow.

LiveView Golf has already transformed the way golfers practice. Now, with LiveView+Plus, players can truly get to know their own swing inside and out . . . and finally catch the errors that have been holding them back.
